Short Abstract:
In 19th century Iran, the Ḥojjat-al-Eslām family was one of the most prominent families in Tabriz spreading Shaykhism, a religious school of Twelver Shiʿism founded by Shaykh Aḥmad Aḥsāʾī (1753-1826). The first member of this family, Mullah Muḥammad (d. 1852), who had supposedly attended the lectures of Shaykh Aḥmad Aḥsāʾī, was among the initial Mullahs that began to promote Shaykhism in Tabriz and other parts of the Azerbaijan region. After his death, his elder son, Mirza Ḥussein (d. 1881), and later, Mirza Muḥammad Taqi (1832-1895) assumed the leadership of some of the Shaykhi groups. Remaining written manuscripts attest to the fact that Mirza Muḥammad Taqi is the key figure of this family and wrote several books in the field of Shi’a theology. Furthermore, he brought religious strife into the realm of satire poetry and created illustrious literary works. This book presents, first, a biography of the three members of this family; and second, provides a rather extensive bibliography of the works of Mirza Muḥammad Taqi, containing all the details of known manuscripts of his works, along with a brief bibliography of the first two members of the Ḥojjat-al-Eslām family.
